Survey: 93% of Moviegoers Plan to See Multiple Movies in Theaters This Summer, Including ‘Black Widow’

The summer movie landscape is looking pretty great as moviegoers return to theaters. People are ready to head back to normal life, and that includes getting their entertainment outside of the house again. There’s just something about seeing a blockbuster on the big screen that can’t be replicated. So what are the theaters like these days? And what movies are people seeing?

Fandango recently surveyed more than 4,000 of its ticket buyers, and 96% of them said they were satisfied with their recent movie-going experience, and 87% saying the theaters did a great job making them feel safe.

What’s more, the overwhelming majority (96%) plan to see multiple movie on the big screen this summer, with MCU’s Black Widow ranked as the most anticipated release of the season. The film stars Scarlett Johansson reprising her title role in a prequel story that takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

The top five summer movies fans most want to see on the big screen are:

  1. Black Widow (opening July 9)
  2. A Quiet Place Part II (opening Friday)
  3. F9 [Fast & Furious 9] (opening June 25)
  4. The Suicide Squad (opening August 6)
  5.  Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (opening Sept 3)

Black Widow will be available to stream on Disney+ with Premier Access the same day it hits theaters, while Shang-Chi will have a 45-day theatrical run before heading to Disney+. A Quiet Place Part II will also have its day in the sun in theaters first before landing at Paramount Plus 45 days later on July 12. However, Suicide Squad will follow suit with other 2021 WarnerBros releases and be available day-and-date on HBO Max at no extra cost.

There’s currently no news on if Fast & Furious 9 will be available on any major streaming service.
