Sports streaming is rising in popularity as 28% of Americans prefer watching sports through a streaming service, according to a new study by Time 2 Play. In February 2022, more than 1,100 Americans, 50% male and 50% female from across the country were surveyed by the online gambling site to find out their sports viewing habits.

The 28% of viewers that prefer to watch via streaming are expected to grow as cord cutters are projected to become the main TV consumers by the end of the year. Due to the growth of streaming, viewers are watching sports they didn’t have access to before and streaming platforms and sports leagues are taking notice. MLS wants to secure streaming rights in their next media deal, HBO Max has eyes on the NBA in the future,  and many streamers are looking to land NFL Sunday Ticket.

Not only are 28% of Americans watching sports through a streaming service, but 16% will record a full game to watch it later if they can’t watch it live. However, the preferred method of watching live sports is still on TV, according to 60% of those surveyed.
