Today TiVo released its quarterly study of the American population. It surveyed over 3,000 people and asked them a wide range of questions.

During the study TiVo looked closely at what channels Americans watched and from there it compared the answers from over 3,000 participants to find out what services best fit their needs.

According to TiVo’s research, the live TV service that best fits most Americans’ needs is DIRECTV NOW. DIRECTV NOW’s Just Right package meet the needs of 85.2% of Americans and its Live a Little package meet the needs of 81.5% of Americans.

The following is a full breakdown of what services meet the needs of most Americans:

It is important to remember this is what TiVo found was the best fit for most Americans.

What is interesting here is that PlayStation Vue is in a solid second place, but Sling TV—according to most reports—has more subscribers than DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue combined with over 2 million subscribers.

DIRECTV NOW is a new service that has seen strong growth with over 500,000 subscribers; however, as best we can tell PlayStation Vue is still near or below the 500,000 subscriber number.

Many have pointed to PlayStation Vue’s name being one of the possible reasons why Sony’s live TV service has such low subscriber numbers. Many still seem to think you need to own a PlayStation to use PlayStation Vue.
