Streaming Viewers have Reportedly Quadrupled Since 2010 With The Growth of Cord Cutting

family watching tvIn 2010, only 15% of viewers streamed content at least weekly. Now nine years later that number has more than quadrupled to 65%.

That doesn’t surprise us, since a new report shows two out of three adults stream some kind of video online, with 2/3 of that group streaming more online than they watch via traditional broadcast TV. That’s up 57% from last year in 2018.

This information is based on a new Horowitz report, FOCUS OTT & SVOD 2019, that surveyed 1,600-1,619 TV viewers in January-February 2019.

The survey found that streamers use 2.4 video services on average. The most popular? Netflix. And people prefer to watch on their TV screen compared to any other device. Of those surveyed, 73% said they do at least some streaming to their TV mainly with an Amazon Firestick, Roku or smart TV app. The next popluar was computers at 55%, 48% on smart phones and 30% for tablets.
