Now we are starting to hear that it has been very profitable for them.

Recently we learned that both CBS All Access and Showtime Anytime have topped 1 million subscribers, and we just learned that CBS is making about $100 million from both of the streaming services. These numbers come from CBS’s COO Joseph Lanniello, who admits these are back of the envelope math statements.

During the interview Joseph Lanniello went into why CBS has not teamed up with Sling TV:

“It’s about terms and conditions,” he said. “What we don’t want to do is replicate the model of the traditional system, that is proven to not be working. If the current model was working, we wouldn’t need any of these other things … If you want content outside the home, that’s a value proposition. If you want older episodes, that’s another value proposition. It’s not the traditional bundle—that’s a fundamental thesis we believe in.”

CBS has also been unwilling to really double down on Hulu, for example, and CBS seems dedicated to putting most of their focus on their own streaming services; however, for now the decision to stick primarily with their streaming services has seemed to pay off at least in the short term.
