Stream the ‘Disney on Broadway’ Benefit Concert Tonight, April 17

Disney on BroadwayBroadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is streaming a tribute to Disney’s 25 year Broadway milestone for free to help raise money for Broadway Cares’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund. The fund has been set up to help performers and production crews who have been affected by closures due to the coronavirus. The stream will start at 7 p.m ET on April 17.

The concert, called “Celebrating 25 Magical Years of Disney on Broadway,” was recorded last year and features hits from a number of Disney musicals including Newsies. The initial performance was a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and raised more than $570,000. Since it was a success, the organization is streaming it again this year in hopes to generate the same kind of positive relief for COVID-19 effects.

“There is no better news today than that which helps us ensure all in the entertainment industry who are facing the serious challenges of this COVID-19 pandemic can depend on the support of all their colleagues in the industry,” Tom Viola, executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, said in a statement.

The performance will feature actor Ryan McCarten as host, broadcasting from his own home with interviews from other Broadway stars throughout the evening. McCarten is known for his recurring role as Diggie Smalls on the Disney Channel sitcom Liv and Maddie, and for his role as Brad Majors in the 2016 Fox musical television film The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again.

You can stream the concert starting at 7 p.m. ET on the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS website, as well as its YouTube and Facebook pages. You can also watch on abc7ny.com and the sites of the ABC Owned Television Stations around the country.
