Straight Talk Wireless Adds Walmart+ Membership For Free To Some of its Plans

Prepaid service Straight Talk Wireless said on Thursday that it is throwing in membership to Walmart+ for free to customers on its two highest plans.

Customers on Straight Talk Wireless Gold and Platinum plans will get Walmart+ for no extra charge. The perk is active starting today.

It’s a natural partnership given that Straight Talk, a unit of Verizon, is exclusively sold at Walmart.

Straight Talk, along with Visible, Tracfone, are among the increasingly important prepaid services run by Verizon. While the company still generates a bulk of its revenue and profit from more affluent subscribers that gravitate towards its traditional plans, it’s seeing increase growth on the prepaid side as consumers get savvier about their different service options.

“Straight Talk customers are loyal Walmart shoppers who love to save money, and we love finding new ways to expand the value we can bring to them,” said Angie Klein, president of the Verizon Value organization. “With Straight Talk’s long-standing partnership with Walmart, adding Walmart+ to our plans just made sense.”

This also potentially widens the base of customers for Walmart+, which offers free deliveries, free shipping with no minimums and other perks like cheaper gas and access to Paramount+. Walmart is banking that like Amazon Prime customers, Walmart+ subscribers will shop more at its stores.

“We’re excited to show Straight Talk customers how much more money they can save with the power of Walmart+ now included,” said Mehrdad Akbar, vice president of DMM wireless services of Walmart.

Straight Talk’s Gold plan costs $55 a month, or $50 with an auto-pay discount, while its Platinum plan costs $65 a month, or $60 with auto-pay. Both plans include unlimited 5G data.

The prepaid wireless service’s plans start at $30, although you won’t be getting the Walmart+ perk.
