Starz’s CEO Seems Excited for the Future of Live TV Streaming Services

Yesterday we heard from NBCUniversal’s CEO about his low expectations for live TV streaming services. This time we have the CEO of Starz, Chris Albrecht, at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills talking about his expectations for live TV streaming.

During a conversation with the association Albrecht said, “We’re packaged in the premium space by the MVPDs (Live TV Streaming Services) with HBO and Showtime. Those are the people we look at as our core business. We’ve fared really well, but the OTT space is really the new frontier.”

“Although there’s been some rocky news in the MVPD (Live TV streaming Services) business, these are huge companies that have a lot invested in maintaining that customer relationship into the home, which they don’t get to do, by the way, through, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon,” he said.

So it seems, for Starz at least, that live TV streaming has done well for the company. A growing number of live TV services launching opens up more options and the opportunity to grow for services such as Starz such as their deals with DIRECTV NOW and Sling TV.

For now though not everyone is as excited as Starz is as we reported yesterday NBCUniversal seems less than excited about their future.
