Starlink Is Available for Everyone After SpaceX Killed Its Waitlist

Interested U.S. customers can now purchase a Starlink satellite internet subscription without delay after SpaceX removed the waitlist. You can just enter your address on Starlink’s site and get started with an order.

The company shared the news yesterday in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Deployment of our second generation Starlink satellites, which have 4x more capacity than the first gen, enable us to connect even more people no matter where they live,” the post said. “Starlink is now available across the United States.”

The post linked to Starlink’s availability map, which shows the U.S. colored almost entirely light blue, meaning the service is readily available. You can also view download and upload speeds as well as latency for your state.

The removal of the waitlist is a key turning point for Starlink, which had restricted access to its service as it slowly expanded capacity. The new mass availability enabled by the company’s second gen satellites could boost Starlink’s user count. The company added about one million customers in the last nine months and has a total of more than 2 million customers. Starlink originally had a goal of 20 million users by 2022.

Starlink will need to accelerate its subscriber growth if it wants to catch up to its prior expectations. The company reported $1.4 billion in revenue at the end of 2022. In 2015, Starlink predicted that it would reach $12 billion in revenue and $7 billion in operating profit.

Price could still be a deterrent for potential customers. In May, Starlink released a new group of plans with sky-high internet speeds for an equally steep price. Plans range from $250 to $5,000 a month in addition to a one-time equipment fee of $2,500. The kit includes a Starlink dish, power supply, wall mount, Wi-Fi router, required cables and a base.

Starlink uses low-earth orbit satellites to offer customers high-speed, low latency internet service, a boon for areas where normal service wasn’t previously possible. Starlink satellites orbit about 35,000 km closer to the earth than other satellites which shortens round-trip data times for improved speed
