Star Trek: Picard is Officially Renewed for Season 2 on CBS All Access

Star Trek: Picard premieres later this month on CBS All Access, but the series has already been renewed for a second season. It was already rumored to have received a second season but today ViacomCBS officially announced it had received a second season.

“The energy and excitement around the premiere of Star Trek: Picard has reached a magnitude greater than all of us at CBS All Access could have hoped for,” said McNamara in a statement. “We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that Star Trek fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story when it premieres on Jan. 23.”

Showrunner Michael Chabon is transitioning into the role of showrunner for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay for Showtime, but will remain involved in the second season of Picard, acting as executive producer of the series.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard will debut on CBS All Access on January 23. The series will air new episodes weekly on the streaming service. With season 1 done filming, sources tell Deadline that season 2 could start airing as soon as Spring 2020.
