Spotify Is Planning to Ban Users Who Use Ad Blockers

This is extremely important for streaming services who offer free music or free TV shows that use ads to cover the costs.

Now Spotify is going to crack down on subscribers who use ad blockers. According to a new terms of services taking effect on March 1st, 2019 they will start to ban accounts that use ad blockers. It seems that Spotify wants users to subscribe to their $9.99 a month plan if they don’t want ads.

According to Spotify, 1.3% of their users are using ad blockers with their free app. At last report, Spotify has about 95 million free subscribers as of the 1st quarter of 2018. That means 1,235,000 users are using ad blockers forcing Spotify to pay for songs they streamed even though they didn’t get paid for them.

This is not new several websites have also recently cracked down on ad blockers. There have also been rumors that other streaming services are also reportedly working on plans to crack down on ad blockers. Now that the systems exist easily detect who is using an ad blocker it is now very easy to ban users who use them.
