Spotify Expands Kids’ Managed Accounts to U.S. and Beyond

Spotify is making life easier for parents who share their Premium Family plan with little ones. The company announced it is expanding its managed accounts for young listeners to seven new markets, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.

The feature was previously tested in ten countries and gives children under 13 their own music space, separate from their parents’ Wrapped playlists. Each managed account comes with personalized recommendations, playlists, and access to popular features like Discover Weekly and daylist, all while keeping parents firmly in control through built-in content filters and privacy tools.

Giving Parents More Control and Kids More Freedom

In the same manner as YouTube, these new accounts are exclusive to Premium Family plans and come with an Explicit Content Filter, the ability to block specific artists or songs, and a toggle to hide videos and Canvas loops. Spotify has also restricted interactivity and social features like messaging and collaborative playlists to make the experience safer for younger listeners.

Parents can set up a managed account directly in the app by selecting “Add a listener aged under 13”, confirming they are the child’s guardian, and setting a personal PIN for future controls. The accounts are also reversible for a short period, with Spotify allowing seven days to switch a profile back before data deletion begins.

Spotify says the goal is to help families explore music together while giving kids the independence to create playlists and follow their favorite artists safely. And for parents, that means no more Kidz Bop songs sneaking into their year-end stats.

How to Get Started

Premium Family plan owners can create managed accounts through their Account Settings in the app or on Spotify’s website. Each child’s listening experience is fully customizable, and parents can make changes at any time, including updating PINs, adjusting filters, or deleting an account.

Spotify also offers a Parental Guide with tips for managing kids’ listening habits and privacy controls, available on its official support site.
