Spectrum Lost 36,000 TV Customers & 83,000 Voice Customers in The 4th Quarter of 2018

Today Spectrum announced their 4th quarter 2018 subscriber numbers. According to Spectrum residential video customers decreased by 36,000 in the fourth quarter of 2018, compared to the fourth quarter of 2017 when video customers increased by 2,000. During the same time, residential voice customers declined by 83,000, compared to the fourth quarter of 2017 when voice customers grew by 23,000.

One of the bright spots for Spectrum was that they added 289,000 residential Internet customers in the fourth quarter of 2018, versus fourth quarter 2017 Internet customer net additions of 263,000.

“We performed well in 2018, growing our Internet customer base by 1.3 million, cable revenue by 4.7%, and cable Adjusted EBITDA by 6.5% — very strong operating and financial performance, particularly in the midst of what we believe is the largest cable integration ever,” said Tom Rutledge, Chairman and CEO of Charter Communications. “In 2019, we expect the operating and cash flow performance of our cable business will further demonstrate the superiority of our network, the returns of our recent investments, and the long-term value creation driven by our consumer-focused operating strategy.”

This all comes as it was already reported that AT&T lost 391,000 TV customers, Verizon Fios lost 46,000 TV customers, and Comcast lost 29,000 TV customers. So far in the 4th quarter of 2018 over 502,000 TV customers cut the cord. We are still waiting for several major TV companies including DISH to report their numbers so that total is likely to continue to grow over the next few weeks.
