This news comes after Comcast also increased its internet speeds in most of its markets. Like the Comcast rollout, it seems that Spectrum is starting the roll out first in a handful of markets at a time. At this rate, it may be a few months before all Spectrum markets get the increased internet speed.
It appears that Comcast and Spectrum are trying to prepare their internet services for a growing number of competitors. Recently Fiber, 5G, Fixed Wireless, and soon even new internet providers like Amazon and Spacex who plan to offer internet from space have started to take on Comcast and Spectrum’s typical dominance in the markets they serve.
But for now, Comcast and Spectrum have a few years before things like 5G home internet and Amazon’s new home internet service rolls out nationwide. When that happens, cable companies may find cord cutting 2.0 coming for their internet customers.
