Spectrum is kicking off the holiday rush with a “thanks for sticking with us” surprise for its current internet customers. From November 24 through December 1, eligible subscribers will get a free temporary upgrade to 1 Gig speeds, just in time for Thanksgiving travel, family gatherings, heavy streaming, online shopping, and the annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday crush.

How to Activate the Free Upgrade

The company is calling the promotion “Thanks’GIG’ing” or simply “Gig Week,” and it’s designed to help households handle what has become the busiest internet usage stretch of the entire year. Customers with Spectrum Internet Premier, as well as eligible legacy Spectrum Ultra and flagship plans, can activate the bump through the My Spectrum app. Once enabled, the upgrade lasts all week and automatically reverts back on December 2.

Spectrum says the free boost should make everything from HD football streams to video calls with family feel smoother during the multidevice chaos of the holiday. Gaming, online shopping, and holiday TV binges should also see a lift thanks to the temporary jump to gig-level bandwidth.

Why Spectrum Is Calling It “Gig Week”

In a statement, Sharon Peters, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Spectrum, said Thanksgiving week brings “more people, more devices, and a lot more gaming, streaming and shopping.” She added that “Gig Week” is meant to thank customers with additional bandwidth on one of the busiest online weeks of the year.

The temporary boost is powered by Spectrum’s Fiber Broadband Network, which the company says delivers fast and reliable connectivity with no data caps. Customers who bundle Spectrum Internet with Spectrum Mobile or eligible Spectrum TV plans can also access savings and streaming integrations.
