SpaceX’s Starlink Internet Is about to Get Faster & More Reliable Thanks to The FCC

Last week the FCC approved a request from Starlink to use the so-called “E-band” for its second-generation network. This move will allow SpaceX’s Starlink home Internet service to offer faster speeds and improved performance.

This comes from a 2022 approved FCC filing that allows SpaceX to launch 7,500 second-generation Starlink satellites.

SpaceX says the E-band spectrum should give it more capacity to handle the ever-growing number of customers wanting to watch movies, play video games, and surf the web on Starlink.

These new second-generation satellites offer more powerful antennas and, according to SpaceX, the E-band should be able to handle four times the amount of data per satellite.

These improvements should help SpaceX keep their data speeds high even during the heaviest use period that would previously slow down the networks.

The other big improvement is lower-latency—something only gamers will see a noticeable improvement with.

SpaceX also recently launched an updated receiver dish for customers that should improve reception and performance.
