SpaceX Unveils Its Next-Generation Starlink Terminal

SpaceX on Friday added a new Starlink terminal to its family of products. The news was shared on X earlier by Tesla investor, Sawyer Merritt.

Compared to its predecessor, the Standard Actuated terminal — which was also designed for everyday uses like gaming, video calls, and streaming — the new device features a slimmer, more portable design, higher waterproof and wind resistance rating as well as an increased field of view, and no motor.

In addition to the terminal, kickstand, and cables, the kit includes a Gen 3 router with Wi-Fi 6 support. Based on the quick start guide, also shared by Merritt, the set-up process looks pretty easy.

SpaceX owner Elon Musk’s internet endeavor has had a rocky start, having only just achieved a breakeven cash flow this month. After falling short of its original predictions for revenue and customers, the company killed off its waitlist for the service earlier this year in hopes of drawing in more subscribers. The service has added about a million customers in the last nine months.

The product announcement is another step forward for Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet offerings, but potential customers could still be reluctant to accept Starlink’s hefty price tag.

In addition to its Standard and Standard Actuated terminals, Starlink offers High Performance and Flat High-Performance terminals.
