SpaceX Is Inviting Starlink Customer to a ‘Limited Launch’ of Its Next Gen Wi-Fi Router

Some Starlink customers are reportedly getting the chance to try out the satellite-based internet provider’s new Wi-Fi router. A Reddit user shared a screenshot of an email from Starlink about the offer.

“Congratulations, you’re invited to a limited launch of our next generation Wi-Fi router,” the email said. “As an early Starlink adopter, we have made tremendous progress in the capability of our hardware since your initial Starlink purchase.”

The email said the new router has “greater range and faster speeds to create a better Wi-Fi network throughout your home or office.” The email included a button to place your order for the new router, but added it was limiting customers to three routers per account during the early release. The Reddit user said the link took them to a “product not found” page.

The invitation seems to be referring to the same Wi-Fi 6 Starlink router that SpaceX received regulatory approval for last week. SpaceX gained authorization from the Federal Communications Commission for the router, model UTR-232, according to a filing spotted earlier by PC Mag.

Starlink has been looking to accelerate its growth, especially after it had gotten more than 5,000 satellites up in space. The company killed its wait list, opening the service to everyone, and now has more than 2 million active customers.

The spacecraft manufacturer also introduced its latest Starlink terminal this month and made the new Standard kit only available by invitation.

SpaceX also sent out invitations in July for select users to try the Wi-Fi 6-supported Gen 3 router, which comes with the Standard kit, but it would cost them $200. It’s not clear whether the router invitation spotted by the Reddit user is a new device, or a finalized version of the router that customers will get with the new Standard kit.

SpaceX wasn’t immediately available for comment.
