SpaceX Confirms Early Starlink Speed Test Results

spacex

Just before the launch of Falcon 9 in SpaceX’s twelfth Starlink mission, the company went to Twitter to offer an official update on the satellite internet service. SpaceX confirmed that the service is in private beta testing, with public testing coming later this year, and shared some general results of early speed testing.

The tweets read “In initial tests of Starlink, the team has been collecting latency data and performing standard speed tests of the system. Results from these tests have shown super low latency and download speeds greater than 100 megabytes per second – fast enough to stream multiple HD movies at once and still have bandwidth to spare.”

The responses have been filled with followers sharing their excitement for a new internet option, along with questions about when the service will be available. The SpaceX account hasn’t yet responded.

We reported on early speed tests in August, after a Reddit thread showed results of 11 anonymized speed tests by Starlink users.

Today’s launch took place at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, from SpaceX’s launch facility at 8:46 AM ET, with another 60 satellites joining the constellation.
