Sony’s Funimation Completes Acquisition of Crunchyroll

Sony and AT&T announced today that Sony has completed its acquisition of anime streaming service Crunchyroll.

The acquisition was first announced in December 2020 with Sony paying AT&T $1.175 billion for the streaming service. Crunchyroll has 5 million SVOD subscribers, up from 3 million at the time the acquisition was announced, and 120 million registered users across 200 countries.

Crunchyroll has one of the largest collections of licensed anime available to streamers, and Anime on Demand video streaming services, translated in multiple languages for viewers worldwide.
