Some Sony Smart TVs to Lose YouTube Access

In what is a growing list of reasons not to get a smart TV, the Sony Bravia TVs are going to lose access to YouTube soon.

Recently YouTube updated the way the site handles videos and apps that play videos. Now it looks like Sony will not be updating their older TVs to support the new standard from YouTube. This change will affect about fifty Sony TV models including the EX, HX, and X Series.

The issue here is likely the fact that Sony has ditched their old operating system that these TVs use in favor of the Google-owned Android TV OS. There is a possibility that Sony no longer has staff to maintain the old operating system.

This is the reason we recommend if you want to buy a smart TV to buy one that runs one of the major operating systems such as Roku or Android TV. These operating systems are maintained by their parent companies not the TV manufacturers. This makes them much more likely to be updated in the future compared to TVs with an operating system owned by the manufacturer.
