Sony Smart TVs Are Adding Alexa

Teenager girl with remote control laying down and watching tv eating popcorn.Yesterday it was announced that Amazon and Sony have teamed up to bring Alexa to select Sony smart TVs. Now you will be able to use Alexa to control your Sony TV.

Sony says at first the Alexa control will be for smart home features and music. Sony does plan to bring additional Alexa options to their TVs in the first half of 2019.

This comes as Amazon announced new Echo devices and even an Echo built for cars that will let you stream your media in your car as you would at home.

Lenovo also announced plans to bring Alexa to select Lenovo tablets later this year. Alexa won’t stop there, as Amazon has announced a new SDK that will allow other manufacturers to build Alexa into their devices. From TVs to microwaves—look for Alexa in new places.

This all comes as Google has been pushing hard to gain market share on Amazon’s Alexa. While Alexa still dominates, recently Google Home has been outselling Echo devices. Amazon seems to be hoping that by teaming up with Lenovo and Sony they can regain dominance in the race for the best smart assistant.
