Sony Plans to Discuss PlayStation 5 Details in March 18 Video Stream

PS5 Logo 1600pIt’s certainly shaping up to be a big week for anyone interested in next-generation gaming consoles. Following quickly after Microsoft released details on its upcoming Xbox Series X console, Sony sent out a tweet today announcing a “deep dive” into its PlayStation 5.

You can tune in at the company’s official blog on March 18th starting at 6am Eastern/9am Pacific. Lead System Architect Mark Cerny will be on hand to walk through the system’s details. While confirmed tech specs are still sparse, gamers can expect an AMD-based CPU/GPU solution and an emphasis on backward compatibility with games designed for the company’s wildly successful PlayStation 4 console.

As a gaming console, it’s likely safe to assume these first details will focus on hardware and gameplay advances, such as the use of solid-state storage and hardware-based ray-tracing. But recent games consoles have also served as popular streaming entertainment platforms for many consumers, so we’ll keep a sharp eye out for supported platforms and services as Sony and Microsoft gear up for much-anticipated holiday 2020 releases.
