Sony streaming app PS4, PS5

Sony and PlayStation have teamed up to give PlayStation console owners a new way to watch movies. Today the companies launched the Sony Pictures Core, a rebranded version of the Bravia Core app, in 23 markets around the world.

When you sign up for the Sony Pictures Core app on your PS4 or PS5, you’ll gain access to 2,000 movies to buy or rent from your console, according to a release from PlayStation. So far, titles include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

PlayStation Plus Premium ($17.99 a month) members can access up to 100 ad-free movies to stream on demand through their membership. The lineup will initially include Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation.

Some Sony Movies will be available for purchase during an exclusive early access window. For example, the Gran Turismo movie is available now through the Sony Core Pictures app. When you buy the movie, PlayStation said you’ll get credit towards an “in-game purchase of GT7, including cars featured in the movie.”

“This is just the beginning, and we plan to evolve the offerings and benefits of Sony Pictures Core over time – including a selection of hit anime content from Crunchyroll,” Evan Stern, PlayStation’s senior director of global marketing said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to more exciting things to come.”

Sony had no further comment beyond the release from PlayStation.
