If you get the OTA TV network GetTV, you will soon notice new programming. Sony has announced plans to add new blocks of programming using the Sony brand focusing on action, sci-fi, and superheroes according to a report from Variety.
You will soon find these new blocks of entertainment showing up on GetTV in 2020. You will also find more big-name Sony movies and TV shows including Ghostbusters, Blade Runner, and Men In Black just to name a few.
GetTV launched in 2014 and is already available in 85 markets covering about 80% of the United States for free with an antenna. Sony is reportedly trying to get more TV stations to pick up the network by putting more of its high profile content on the network. Sony is hoping that cable networks and live TV streaming services pick up the network because, unlike some of their competitors, they don’t offer a free online stream of the channel. Even if the content owners do not pay for the channel, having it in front of more Americans helps drive up ad revenue.
GetTV does include content form other studios including MGM, which has invested heavily in OTA TV.
Sony has also been investing in TV channels including the purchase of AT&T’s part of the Game Show Network.
