Sonos & Roku Are in Talks to Team Up

Today it was reported by Cnet that Roku & Sonos are in talks to integrate Roku’s new entertainment software the Roku Connect and Roku Entertainment Assistant into Sonos’ audio devices. This all comes from what Cnet says are people familiar with the conversations. Now it is important to remember that these talks are in the early stages and it is very possible they fall apart long before a deal is agreed to.

So what is the Roku Entertainment Assistant? Here is a short video demoing the service:

Recently Roku announced that they are teaming up with Google Home to let you use your Google Home device to control your Roku. Now it looks like the same thing could be coming to Sonos speakers.

Here is how Roku describe the Google Assistant integration with Roku:

Soon, you’ll be able to use Google Assistant devices to control select Roku streaming devices to pause and search for content and launch channels. Additionally, Roku TV owners can turn their TV on and off, turn up the volume, mute, switch inputs and change channels if there is an OTA antenna connected.

Detail are still thin but it looks like Roku wants to continue being as open as possible by allowing Roku owners to use as many devices as possible to interact with their Roku players and Roku TVs.
