Some Roku Users are Receiving Hulu Support Emails in Error

If you’re a Hulu subscriber who watches on an older model Roku device, we’ve got some bad news. As part of an update to the streaming app, customers who have a Roku player model 3100 or earlier (before July 2011) or a Roku streaming stick model 3420 or earlier (before October 2012) will no longer be able to watch Hulu.

Some outdated Roky devices were limited to using the “Hulu Classic” app, which had no live TV and only basic features. Those people can still watch on-demand content until June 24, but after that point, Hulu Classic will no longer be supported on the older Roku devices. 

Hulu sent subscribers scrambling with the announcement this week because, while they intended to only alert affected users, they actually sent the notice to many more, making them believe Hulu and Roku were breaking up.  

There’s no estimation of how many devices this affects, but it’s not believed to be a significant number.

The classic version of Hulu carries a price of $5.99 a month, and users who lose Roku support will need to cancel their subscription if they don’t plan to upgrade their Roku.
