Sling TV’s President Thinks Live TV Streaming Will See Explosive Growth Over The Next Three to Five Years

Yesterday at the Pay-TV Show in Denver, Sling TV’s President, Warren Schlichting, talked about the current state of TV. Schlichting said he expects live TV streaming services like Sling TV to jump from 7 million subscribers to 25 million subscribers over the next three to five years.

This would be a massive but very reasonable jump. With 1.325 million American households canceling cable in the first quarter of 2019, you can see how over three years live TV streaming could see rapid growth.

There are still struggles with live TV streaming services. Most cord cutters still do not pay for a live TV streaming service. For all the talk of how cord cutting services like Sling TV and PlayStation Vue would save TV, it seems that cord cutters would rather just get Netflix, Hulu on-demand, or Amazon, among other services. This is the ultimate fear of cable TV executives. Not only are people dropping their high-profit bundles, they are not moving into the lower profit so-called skinny bundles.

Update: we updated this post to say three to five years to better reflect what Sling TV’s President said.
