One of the points he hammered home was the high cost of locals and the advantages of an antenna. Warren said the cost of locals on your traditional pay-TV service next year will likely be $15 a month up from $12 a month in 2018.
Over a two-year contract, the cost of locals many can get for free will add up to over $360. When looking at the cost of a good outdoor antenna at roughly $100 to $140, these cable charges for locals make an antenna look even more appealing.
The high cost for locals is one of the driving reasons of recent price hikes in the world of TV.
When asked if OTA networks like ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC should be paid like a cable TV network Warren said, “Sure, if they give back their free taxpayer airwaves.” He went on to talk about how networks received free over-the-air TV broadcast rights worth millions.
Warren pushed home the idea that these airwaves are owned by the taxpayer and as long as broadcast networks get them for free they shouldn’t be treated like a cable TV network.
