Sling TV & Univision Are Unlikely to Strike a New Deal

It has been over a month since Univision networks went dark on Sling TV and DISH. Ever since the blackout, both sides have pointed fingers at each other. DISH says Univision wants too much, and Univision says DISH is not seriously negotiating.

“We’re not asking them to do anything outrageous,” said Univision VEO Vince Sandusky in his first earnings calls since taking the reins at Univision. “If DISH doesn’t start to negotiate in a real serious way, we’re ready to go in terms of using full promotional capabilities of our company and begin to convert what we believe is well over a million DISH Latino subscribers.”

Exactly how Univision plans to move people away from DISH is still unclear, but it seems likely that they are hoping their large social media and OTA TV presence can be used to promote DISH competitors like DIRECTV.

DISH recently announced that they believe the Univision blackout is likely permanent and that Univision networks will not be returning to Sling TV or DISH. While that can always change, for now it seems like both companies are far apart when it comes to resolving this issue.
