Sling TV Still Leads But Added Just 26,000 Subscribers in The 3rd Quarter of 2018

Today Dish the parent company behind Sling TV announced that they had added just 26,000 subscribers in the 3rd quarter of 2018. The good news for Dish is that they are still the largest live TV streaming service in the United States.

Many had expected that DIRECTV NOW would jump Sling TV in the 3rd quarter of 2018. Now it looks like that may not happen until sometime in 2019. Back in October 2018, AT&T announced that DIRECTV NOW added just 49,000 subscribers in the 3rd quarter of 2018. This means they are still short of 2 million subscribers many expected them to hit. Well DIRECTV NOW is still outpacing Sling TV in subscriber growth almost 2 to 1 that gap is closing quickly as many of the most popular DIRECTV NOW deals are coming to an end.

Well, cord cutting has never been more popular as AT&T and Dish lost over 600,000 pay-TV subscribers combined in just three months, but the rate of growth has slowed. Many have pointed to the very strong economy resulting in Americans not rushing to find cheaper options for TV. Others have pointed to a growing number of cord-cutters who are skipping live TV services in favor of antennas and on-demand services.
