Sling TV Sees Strong Subscriber Growth

DishLogo-RedSling TV is seeing steady and strong growth for the new streaming service. Whereas Dish lost 23,000 subscribers for their traditional satellite TV service, streaming-only Sling TV gained almost seven times that many subscribers during the third quarter 2015.

A recent report from research company MoffettNathanson said Sling TV has gained 155,000 new subscribers in the third quarter of 2015. That would make Sling TV one of the fastest growing live TV services, especially with Comcast losing 48,000 subscribers and DirecTV only gaining 26,000 subscribers over the same period. Recently it was announced that ESPN now has 7 million fewer subscribers than just a few years ago.

This is continued evidence that people want options to pick what content they want for a reasonable price. Whereas Sling TV may not give you total control, smaller packages at inexpensive prices allow cord cutters to get live TV without having to subscribe to 100 channels to just get a few they want.

With cable TV costs going up once again by an estimated $2 a month, more Americans than ever are ditching cable.

What is even scarier for cable TV providers is the hidden numbers of cord nevers. Every quarter about 250,000 more Americans join the workforce. So even if cable TV subscribers stay the same, cable companies are losing what should be a growing number of new households that would have traditionally been new subscribers.
