Sling TV Saw Strong Year Over Year Growth During the Super Bowl

The 2018 Super Bowl was a big moment in the world of cord cutting. Overall the game streamed smoothly for most cord cutters. Many live TV streaming services stayed up and streamed the game without issues including Sling TV, fuboTV, and DIRECTV NOW.

We are starting to get some detailed statistics about how big the game was for streaming services. fuboTV announced that they had 150,000 viewers during the game, and we just learned that Sling TV saw a 27% year over year growth compared to the 2017 Super Bowl game.

Sling TV has continued their policy of not disclosing subscriber numbers. As best we can tell Sling TV now has over 2 million live TV subscribers to their service. This makes Sling TV the #1 streaming service when looking at subscriber numbers. Most analysts agree that Sling TV has the most subscribers of any live TV streaming service.

Although Hulu and PlayStation Vue did go down during the game, both of their outages ended up being short outages. Even the free streams on the NBC app and the Yahoo Sports app offered smooth high quality streams.

While live TV streaming technology is still a fairly young technology, companies are slowly building up their services to become more stable as more Americans become cord cutters.
