Sling TV Replaces Schlichting as President After Subscriber Losses

Sling TV logoWarren Schlichting is leaving his role as group president of Sling TV after subscriber losses in the last quarter.

Sling TV launched in 2015 and saw significant growth until 2019. In the fourth quarter of 2019, the streaming service began losing subscribers. That loss continued through the most recent quarter. At the end of March 2020, Sling TV subscriber numbers were down 4.7% from the previous year, at 2.31 million subscribers.

Michael Schwimmer will take over in leading Sling TV. The former Dish employee returned to the company in 2019 and has been heading up international business development and strategy.

Other changes in senior management are reportedly being made to “reflect Dish’s move to enter the wireless market as a facilities-based provider of wireless services with a nationwide consumer offering and development of a standalone 5G broadband network.”
