Sling TV Was the Real Winner of the McGregor vs Mayweather Fight

Over the weekend one of the most-hyped PPV fights ever happened with the McGregor vs Mayweather fight. Sadly, though, for many the PPV fight was full of issues that even delayed the fight.

On Saturday event coordinators delayed the fight by about 20 minutes as several cable providers had issues with the PPV. Even the official UFC app experienced widespread issues from users being unable to login to excessive buffering.

Reports from our readers Sling TV was the only service to have no widespread issues streaming the McGregor vs Mayweather fight.

When Sling TV first launched there were a lot of issues, but Sling TV has made impressive improvements from when it first launched. Now it seems to be one of the more stable options when it comes to major events.

During the season premiere of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” several services went under including DIRECTV NOW and the HBO NOW and HBO GO apps; however, Sling TV stayed up and ran smoothly even though it has more subscribers.

Two other services seemed to do well with the PPV stream, but we still heard a few complaints. First, the new Showtime PPV service that launched for the fight. Only a handful of readers reported issues. Second, Sony’s Live Events service, which is a standalone service separate from PlayStation Vue. We only heard a few complaints about both services. Far fewer than what cable or UFC users experienced.

Hopefully all of these services continue to improve, but it does feel like live TV is coming to a point of maturity where widespread issues are becoming a thing of the past. We are still not there yet, but we are getting closer.
