Local Now is Down on Sling TV (But it May Come Back)

Weather Channel’s Local Now is temporarily down on Sling TV but it will return. Sling TV has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that Local Now will return but that it may take a few months for the Weather Channel to fix the issues on their end.

A spokes person for The Weather Channel sent Cord Cutters News the following statement. “This is purely a technological issue. We are upgrading the app experience and it will take some time to build out the technology to make it compatible with Sling. Both sides agreed it was best to take it down, while we improve the experience for our viewers.”

Local Now provides localized updates relevant to 207 markets (think LA, Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Tallahassee, etc.), in partnership with some of the most trusted news sources across the U.S. including The Weather Channel, the Associated Press, SportRadar, TrafficLand, and INRIX. Its localized content cycles on a short loop that’s refreshed at the top of every hour.

Local Now was first added to Sling TV back in March 2016. At the time, Sling TV was one of the first major services to carry Local Now. Recently the new owners of The Weather Channel announced plans to relaunch Local Now and has struck new deals with content providers.

It is possible this planned relaunch of Local Now and the fact that there are new owners of The Weather Channel could be the cause of the recent issues.

Sling TV still has Weather Nation in their service if you are looking for a weather option.
