“That means that once the existing stock of the standalone streaming devices is sold, the only way consumers will be able to buy a unit is through various on-line outlets that represent retailer with remaining inventory,” the publication reported.
The Slingbox allows owners to connect an antenna (if you are willing to do a little work around to connect the antenna) to their Slingbox and stream it over the web to a wide range of devices including phones, tablets, streaming media players, and more. Allowing you to access your home antenna no matter where you are located.
In a statement to Multichannel News Sling Media did not deny that it has halted Slingbox manufacturing, but said that it continues to sell and support the products. “We continue to sell Slingbox units and support our active community of Slingbox users. There are not any formal announcements to share at this time,” Mark N. Vena, vice president of worldwide marketing at Sling Media.
This is sad news for cord cutters who enjoy using the Slingbox to cast their antenna anywhere in the world. Yet for now you can still get the Slingbox M2 new on Amazon for $99.99.
