Sling is Named One of the Most Influential Products of the Decade

In a Consumer Reports overview of the most influential products of the decade, Sling TV took one of the top spots in the tech category.

When Sling TV launched in 2015, consumers were looking for an alternative to the high costs and headaches that came along with their cable subscriptions. Sling TV was one of the first companies to bring competition to the traditional TV industry by offering cable channels and live TV via the internet.

At just $20/month when the streaming service launched, Sling TV was the affordable option that consumers were looking for.

This was the first time cord cutters could get the access to local sports they wanted, without going to a local bar or hanging out with a friend who was holding onto cable. Without contracts and hidden costs, subscribers could watch everything from awards shows to football games to news reports live.

Since 2015, the streaming service has continued to be a strong competitor for cable companies. Channels have been added, features have been updated, and subscriber numbers have continued to grow. Sling TV sparked the growth of cord cutting and opened the door for streaming services to create many more options with a service to fit nearly every budget, location, and channel lineup preference.
