ViacomCBS and DISH announced today a multi-year renewal of their carriage agreement, keeping ViacomCBS channels on DISH and Sling TV.
Ahead of today’s announcement, there was speculation that Sling and DISH were preparing to face a blackout of ViacomCBS channels. Sling posting a warning, which was quickly removed, notifying subscribers that it was “fighting on your behalf” to bring back channels including BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Nick Jr., Nick Toons, Teen Nick, Paramount TV, TV Land, and VH1.
The original agreement to bring the channels to Sling was made in April 2016, adding to the existing relationship between DISH and ViacomCBS.
“We appreciate Viacom’s willingness to continue with us on our journey as we work to deliver the best, most innovative television services available,” said Charlie Ergen, DISH chairman and CEO when the agreement was made in 2016. “This creative, bold and consumer-friendly approach extends a nearly 20-year-old relationship.”
That agreement was set to expire in the coming weeks if terms weren’t agreed upon.
Terms of the deal announced today were not disclosed.
