Sky Launches Now TV As a Standalone Live TV Streaming Service in The UK

Father curled up on the sofa with his two daughters. They are watching a movie with popcorn.Today Sky announced that they are launching Now TV as a standalone contract-free streaming TV and broadband service with prices starting at just £18 per month for speeds of 17Mbps, rising to £25 for 38Mbps and £35 for 76Mbps.

Now TV is not new as Sky launched the service about 15 months ago but what is new is offering the service as a standalone and contract-free option. This will give UK subscribers the same freedom Americans have enjoyed with services like Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, Hulu, and more. This new Now TV service should launch in the Spring of 2018.

Sky also announced along with their partner Roku a new Sky TV stick. This new streaming stick is a rebranded 2017 Roku Stick and will be used as the backbone of the new Now TV standalone streaming service. This new Now TV Stick will be available in late February or early March.

The downside to the new Sky TV stick is you won’t get full access to the Roku Channel Store so no access to Netflix for example. Yet you will find some apps like the BBC Player as a option with the Now TV stick.
