The deal has faced strong scrutiny by Congress, the FCC, and the Department of Justice (DOJ). Now Sinclair has proposed new terms in an effort to satisfy the government agencies that are overseeing the deal. According to the new deal, Sinclair will sell off a dozen local broadcast networks to minority owners.
Currently, the FCC has the review process for the Sinclair-Tribune deal on hold. The FCC has been waiting for an updated deal from Sinclair and the question now is whether this new deal will be enough to appease the DOJ and the FCC.
Recently the DOJ has been taking a close look at the consolidation of media groups. Currently, the DOJ is suing AT&T and Time Warner in an effort to block a merger of the two companies. Sinclair seems to be working hard to avoid any legal issues with the DOJ during their review process.
For now, we will have to wait and see what happens.
