Sinclair Is Reportedly Planning to Launch a 24/7 News Network to Take on Fox News

Couple relaxing in living room holding remote control and smilingFor years it has been reported that Sinclair was working on a news network. Now it has been reported that they plan to launch a 24/7 news network called STIRR.

The new STIRR network will be a mix of local news in markets that Sinclair has locals and national news programs. The programming will reportedly be streamed free online and through apps but also free over the air with an antenna in Sinclair markets.

According to reports, in recent months Sinclair has been in talks with former Fox News staff including Greta Van Susteren, but it is unclear if that will be for STIRR or some other service.

BuzzFeed was the first to report the news of STIRR after spotting a trademark application from Sinclair.

This all comes as both MSNBC and Fox News plan to launch subscription news services. Other 24/7 news networks have been popping up recently from OAN to NewsMax. The question now is how many news networks can survive as cord cutting continues to grow. With the addition of STIRR there will be more than 10 live 24/7 news networks in the United States.

Sinclair declined to comment on the story. It is important to remember that Sinclair could still be over a year away from launching STIRR or it could be something they hope to launch this year.
