Sinclair Is Reportedly Interested in Buying XUMO

About a month ago, Viacom purchased Pluto TV. Now reports are starting to fly that Sinclair is looking at Pluto TV’s competitor service XUMO as a possible acquisition.

Sinclair Broadcast Group has recently been pushing into the free ad-supported streaming market with the launch of STIRR. Now, according to Variety, Sinclair is one of the main companies in talks with XUMO about a possible deal.

As more and more paid services launch, companies are seeing free ad-supported services like Pluto TV and XUMO as a way to stand out. Offering a huge catalog of free movies and TV shows, Pluto TV and XUMO hope to be seen as a supplement to your antenna or Netflix subscription.

Content creators seem to have similar ideas as a growing number of them, like Discovery and Viacom, have started to bring their content to these ad-supported streaming services.

There are reports that other companies are looking into XUMO at this time, but Sinclair is the name being reported. How would XUMO and STIRR work together or would they be separate?
