The new STIRR network will be a mix of local news in markets from Sinclairs 190 plus local TV stations and national news programs. The programming will reportedly be streamed online but also free over the air with an antenna in Sinclair markets. According to reports, in recent months Sinclair has been in talks with former Fox News staff including Greta Van Susteren, but it is unclear if that will be for STIRR or some other service.
“Stirr will be available in linear and on demand,” said Ripley, adding that he’ll meet with cable providers like Comcast and Spectrum for carriage. “It’s coming soon,” he teased.
This all comes as both MSNBC and Fox News plan to launch subscription news services. Other 24/7 news networks have been popping up recently from OAN to NewsMax. The question now is how many news networks can survive as cord cutting continues to grow. With the addition of STIRR there will be more than 10 live 24/7 news networks in the United States.
