Several Kodi Add-Ons Are Shutting Down Following a UK Arrest

This week UK police arrested the creator of a Kodi add-on reportedly used to facilitate access to infringing content. Now at least 3 major Kodi add-on developers have shut down their add-ons to avoid being the next creator arrested.

Maybe one of the most popular add-ons to shut down was the 13 Clowns add-on and Maverick who at the time it shut down had over 10,000 Twitter followers. None of these developers who have been listed have said they are facing any legal action at this time. It seems that they are hoping to avoid any legal issues by shutting down before being arrested.

Recently content creators have turned their sights on Kodi add-ons. Dish sued TVAddons and the Kodi add-on ZemTV. Kodi Box makers like the TickBox and Dragon Box also faced lawsuits in the United States. Overseas content owners have been pushing for criminal prosecutions of add-on creators.

CBS this year also started to crack down on Kodi add-ons who offered CBS content including the free CBS Sports and CBS News feeds.

Dish even went after stores who sold the so-called Kodi Boxes to the public. Even the FCC has asked Amazon and eBay to stop selling the so-called Kodi Boxes that promote piracy. Facebook has also banned ads promoting Kodi Boxes as far back as 2017.

Increasingly media companies are looking at streaming and Kodi as the new front in the world of Piracy. With a growing number of wins, they seem to be getting more aggressive in their efforts to shut down piracy streaming online.
