Set TV Suddenly Became ‘Unavailable’ After Being Sued

Authentic scrambled reception on a TV screenYesterday Set TV a IPTV service that became wildly popular suddenly and without warning became “unavailable” this week. This comes just a month after Set TV was sued by a long list of media companies for copyright infringement.

A message posted on their site and social media said:

Thank you for contacting SET TV. SET TV service is currently unavailable. For additional information send an email to: support@setvnow.com. Thank You again!

The lawsuit claims Set TV committed “mass infringement” of the content owned by the studios. The suit was filed on in April 2018 in the U.S. District Court in Central California, and the list of plaintiffs includes Amazon, Netflix, Disney, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros.

In the lawsuit the studios said “for the customers who use Setvnow, the service provides hallmarks of using authorized streaming services — a user-friendly interface and reliable access to popular content — but with a notable exception: the customers only pay money to Defendants, not to Plaintiffs and other content creators upon whose copyrighted works Defendants’ business depends.”

Set TV offered 500 channels including premium networks and international channels for just $20 a month. They also really looked legitimate with many of our own readers asking if it was a legitimate service. According to many reports, they had a massive following and a large number of subscribers.

The studios are asking for an injunction to block Set TV from continuing operation and “$150,000 per work infringed by virtue of Defendants’ willful, knowing, and material contribution to infringement.”

What exactly pushed Set TV to at least for now shut down is still unknown but many are pointing to the lawsuit as a likely cause for Set TV now suddenly becoming “unavailable.”
