We Are Seeing the Start of a New Golden Age of Over-the-Air TV

Watching TV, Watching, Living Room, Domestic Life, SmilingOver-the-air TV is having something of a rebirth right now. After being the only way to watch TV, broadcast over-the-air TV saw a steady decline starting back in the 1970s. Now though it is once again an increasingly popular way to watch TV in America.

Over the past five years, the number of broadcast TV households has seen a 41% increase in the United States. Surprisingly the average age of these households is younger than many expected at just over 35 years in age.

A lot of this has to do with the growing trend of cord cutting and the move to digital TV. In the past over-the-air TV was just a handful of channels. Now many Americans can find 30 or more channels 100% free and many in great HD clarity.

This growth has not gone unnoticed by broadcast TV stations. Many have invested millions of dollars into their broadcast TV stations. Others have launched new networks such as Comet, Antenna TV, and TBD.

It seems that we are moving into a new golden age of over-the-air TV.
