Scammers Are Targeting Amazon Fire TV & Fire Stick Owners

fire tv stickFor years we have been reporting on how scammers have been targeting Roku owners. Now after Roku has started to aggressively crack down on this, many scammers have moved on to target Amazon Fire TV owners.

Many of these Fire TV scams are similar to the Roku scams. They often involve fake tech support phone numbers. Some of these companies do offer real tech support if you pay, which is no different than if you walked into your local computer store looking for help. (Running a company that offers legitimate tech support is not a scam.) Other websites try to talk you into paying for a service you don’t need by trying to convince Fire TV owners that if they want to continue to use their Fire TV they need to pay. Or making you think the only way to get support that Amazon offers for free is by paying.

The problem seems to come when people Google something like “Amazon Fire TV Tech Support.” The first few recommendations from Google go to sites that are not owned by Amazon. You have to scroll down over halfway through the page to find a link to Amazon.com.

Sadly, none of the search results on Google’s first page when you search for “Amazon Fire TV Tech Support” leads to Amazon’s tech support page for the average user. One of the results does bring you to the Developer Help page, but it does not offer support for the end-user.

Even Google’s Featured Snippets section does not lead to the official Amazon Contact Us page or Amazon Support page. Instead, it leads to a third-party Fire TV support website not related to Amazon.

If you own a Fire TV and want Amazon technical support, you can find it by going to Amazon’s official Contact Us page HERE.
