Samsung recently announced it’s started accepting preorders for its 2022 line of TVs, models that were first unveiled back at CES in January. And while the lineup includes some familiar options like its Neo QLEDs and designed-focused The Frame, a new model marks Samsung’s own entry into the world of QD-OLED (Quantum Dot Organic Light Emitting Diode) TVs.
The company says its QD-OLED, which shines blue light through a layer of tiny particles called Quantum Dots to produce color, offers better color accuracy and wider viewing angles. In fact, Samsung says its approach improves upon previous OLED TVs, which are often at the top of the heap when it comes to picture quality.
We first caught a (virtual) glimpse of the new tech via a TV from Sony, which revealed its high-end A95K QD-OLED back at CES 2022. But since the screen itself was sourced from Samsung Display (a Samsung subsidiary), many in the industry have been expecting an in-house model to make an appearance sooner or later.
And, sure enough, Samsung’s own take on a QD-OLED TV is now up for preorder. It’s called the S95B series, and it’s currently available in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes. The smaller of the two will retail for a hair under $2,200, while the larger model carries an asking price of roughly $3,000. Both are expected to ship in mid-April, according to Amazon’s product pages.
Elsewhere, Samsung is also accepting preorders for its 4K and 8K Neo QLED models, as well as The Frame, which is pitched as a high-end way to display digital art. The company is expanding that use case to include support for NFTs (non-fungible tokens) this year. Preorders for more models are expected to pop up later in the year.
