Rumor: House of Cards’ Season 4 Could Be its Last

house-of-cards-season-3-posterA recent report by the New York Post has suggested that House of Cards, the hit Netflix original show, is coming to an end this year. The New York Post points to the fact that the star of the show, Kevin Spacey, has agreed to head Relativity Media’s movie division.

The issue here is the fact that Relativity Media is a competitor of Netflix. Some of this could be purely financial on Kevin Spacey’s part because he was offered a deal that is rumored to be very lucrative at Relativity Media. However, Netflix did offer Spacey a respectable $15 million per season for House of Cards.

Albert Fried analyst Rich Tullo told the New York Post, “It is odd to find Spacey on the opposite side of Netflix in a legal controversy having to do Relativity Media’s bankruptcy,” Tullo told The Post. “That says to me Spacey believes his future with Netflix is short-term, meaning it shouldn’t be surprising if Underwood gets killed off in Season 4.”

Now House of Cards has been renewed for a 5th season. It would not be the first time a show was canceled even after it was renewed. Or it could be that that Spacey would not be a part of Season 5. We just do not know right now.

Even if House of Cards’ Season 4 is its last, Netflix is unlikely to be hurt by this. Although House of Cards did put Netflix on the map as a serious studio making first-rate shows, Netflix now has a large catalog of original movies and TV shows that should keep subscribers happy.

Right now it is all speculation, and we may not know for sure until Netflix releases House of Cards on March 4, 2016.
